Once more we hopped into two minibuses and drove down to Bournemouth for our annual participant’s holiday. We were again joined this year by both Gloucester and Stroud participants. This allowed everyone to meet some new faces and get better acquainted. We spent time by the sea, visited Brownsea Island to explore the nature reserve, had a wander around Swanage harbour and then took a steam train to Corfe Castle.
These holidays are always special because they not only provide a great opportunity to relax and get out and about but it also highlights just how caring the timebanking community is and how people connect and help each other out – Some examples are: providing company to someone when they are out walking their dog in a new and unfamiliar place, reminding people what time the next train leaves and hurrying them along in case they miss it, sharing tips on best use of the mobility scooters and how to charge them properly, helping someone understand the menu in the Korean restaurant or even just encouraging someone to go out and enjoy the sunrise – which turned out to be the very first time she had ever seen a sunrise in her life! All simple acts of just being a good friend!
We’re already planning something very special for next year, so if you’re interested in coming along, please contact us.
We have to give a huge thanks to Barnwood Trust for supporting us with these holidays. This is our 11th year of doing these and it would not be possible without their help.
